Boycott the Bay

We are calling for a boycott of The Bay until it stops selling fur. As Canadians, we have a right to demand that The Bay become the environmentally and socially responsible company it markets itself to be.

Don't delay, take action today!

Fur is not environmentally and socially responsible. It is destructive to the environment and is polluting our land and water. It is killing animals and decimating native species of wildlife. Human beings are getting sick because of the waste and chemicals from fur farms.

Fur is NOT Green.

About 70% of animals are raised for fur in fur farms. They must be fed, watered using resources; they then produce feces and urine which pollute our water. In fact around many fur farms the water is so polluted that human beings are getting sick.

To prevent fur from rotting it is treated with harsh chemicals such as formaldehyde which causes cancers in humans and destroys the environment.

Of the 30% caught in traps, most are “trash animals” (birds, porcupines, deer, cats, dogs) which have no purpose for the trapper and are killed and the trap is reset. Often animals listed under the Endangered Species Act are caught as “trash”. There have also been cases where children were caught in these traps.

Fur is cruel.

Many animals caught in traps slowly freeze or starve to death before trappers come to check their traps. Animals who are still alive when the traps are checked are then killed by bludgeoning or stomping. Many animals chew off their own paw to escape the agony of a leg hold trap and go off to die of gangrene, infection, loss of blood or predators.

Animals on fur farms are raised in small cages, in their own feces and in the bitter cold (to force them to produce thicker fur.) Standard methods of killing on fur farms is anal and vaginal electrocution and injecting some cheap chemical directly into the animal’s heart which causes the animal to convulse for up to 10 minutes before dying.

Electrocution doesn’t work very well animals often “wake up” while they are being skinned. After an animal is skinned alive he or she can remain alive for up to half an hour without his skin.
