(Subject): IWC Moratorium Extension on all whale and dolphin species
Dear Council President Van Rompuy,
In view of the coming IWC meeting in June 2010 in Morocco, and considering the recent Verdict by the United Animal Nations, pronounced on 22.02.2010, against the whale and dolphin massacres in Faroe islands (Denmark), Japan, Norway, Iceland and Greenland,
I urge the European Union:
- to propose the moratorium extension on all whale and dolphin species for voting by all the IWC member states,
- to vote in favour of this moratorium extension on all cetaceans during the coming IWC meeting in June 2010 in Morocco,
- to propose for voting the closing of the loophole in the moratorium, allowing Japan to kill whales for "scientific research" and distribute the whale meat for consumption.
I strongly oppose whaling and dolphin hunt, because:
- it is extremely cruel and there is no place for such brutal traditions in the 21st century;
- it is very destructive for the oceans eco-systems which need urgent conservation measures, instead of further destructive measures;
- whaling is absolutely USELESS, as whale and dolphin meat is highly toxic and thus uneatable. The mercury and other toxin levels in the meat cause very serious damage to people's health. Killing whales and dolphins for meat means killing both animals and humans!
I urge the EU and the European IWC member states to be pro-active in stopping whaling both in Europe and worldwide. For the good of our planet, and for us humans as well.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my comments.
Sincerely,
(your name)….

(Subject): Reject the IWC whaling deal, condemn Japan!
Dear Commissioners to the International Whaling Commission,
I am deeply shocked that the whaling deal was proposed and will be voted in June, with the support of some EU countries. A deal that serves the business
interests of Japan, a CRIMINAL country that persistently attracts new member states to the IWC and buys their votes through their "international aid
program" with the only goal to overturn the ban on whaling. Please watch this video, this is the evidence:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMp2vgZXv7o&feature=related
It is also widely known that Japan does not do any research, and violates the international ban on whaling, desecrating the Southern Ocean Whale
Sanctuary with utmost arrogance and disrespect to both whales and international laws!! Please read this recent article on Japan Times, open
your eyes to the truth, already known by the whole world!
http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/fb20100425a1.html
Here is a research proving the extensive trade with the meat of protected whales on Yahoo Japan, pursued by more than 100 companies:
http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/new-report-yahoo-profiting-from-killing-of-whales-dolphins-and-elephants-92454154.html
Japan's whaling is also in violation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). For all these violations Japan belongs in the International Court of Justice, but instead it receives a nice present by the IWC, called "whaling compromise". A present by a corrupt organization that is ready to sacrifice even endangered whales in order to "save" them!
Another internationally known fact is that there is a Verdict against the whale and dolphin slaughter practiced by Japan, Norway, Iceland, Faroe
Islands and Greenland (the Geneva verdict of 22.02.2010 by the United Animal Nations: http://www.presseportal.ch/de/pm/100019151/?langid=2 ). By
proposing the whaling deal, the IWC and the EU governments supporting it disregard this verdict, and the urgent directions given to the IWC for full
protection of all cetaceans.
It is shocking that even the fact that whale meat is extremely TOXIC and dangerous to people's health cannot influence the whaling business, a dying
industry desperately trying to make profit at a very high cost for whales and humans!! Legalizing commercial whaling and legalizing the distribution
of the toxic whale meat is a very WRONG decision, both for the whales, and for the human beings!!
The EU, voting in block at the IWC meetings, has a huge responsibility for the whales and for the future of our dying oceans. With your votes you can
either keep the moratorium and save the whales, or sell out the whales by accepting the whaling deal and cause a disaster.
I urge each one of you, and the EU as a community voting in block:
- to act as responsible politicians and to REJECT the IWC whaling deal, voting in favour of the moratorium and its further strengthening.
I also respectfully urge your governments:
- to support Australia in their legal actions against Japan at the International Court of Justice.
Thank you for your attention.
Sincerely,
